Don’t Go Off of How You Feel, Go Off of What He says

I feel unloved.  I feel unworthy.  I feel like a failure.  I feel weak.  I feel as though I will never succeed.  I feel ugly.  I feel alone.  I am afraid.  All of these are thoughts that many of us have had at least one time in our lives as a result of how we have felt.  Sometimes, these feelings will consume our days and nights.  We allow these feelings to stop us from believing in ourselves and in our abilities.  These very feelings, which are so common, are extremely dangerous to our present as well as our future.  These feelings, although very real, are only feelings.  They are not true, however, when given permission, they can be very powerful.

It is time to stop feeding those feelings that have become time killers and success stealers.  Every negative feeling must be overcome with truth.  Don’t go off of how you feel, go off of what God says.  Feelings are subject to change month to month, day to day, hour to hour, and minute to minute.  However, what God says about you will never change.  Feelings can be deceiving and biased.  Feelings can make us believe that we are something that we are not or rob us of knowing who we really are.  Feelings of fear, doubt, confusion, unworthiness, and rejection will always keep us from seeing and walking in our destiny and God’s divine purpose in our lives.  These feelings will gradually eat away at our self-esteem and self-confidence until we no longer believe in ourselves.  These same feelings are often given the power to cause us to stay in relationships with people who do not appreciate or value our presence or our worth, while also causing us to separate ourselves from those who truly do appreciate us.

It is time to realize that feelings were given to us for a purpose and they have a specific place in our lives.  However, they were never meant to control us and cause us to make life-altering decisions without considering the truth.  The truth is that we are loved by God, he sees us as important, worthy, wonderfully made, strong, and beautiful.  He wants us to be confident, not only in him but also in who he has created us to be.  We must know and remember the things that God has spoken concerning us regardless of how we feel.

Scriptures to Remember:

  • When feeling unloved, remember the word of God says: “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” I John 4:16
  • When feeling weak remember the word of God says: “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalms 73:26
  • In times of loneliness remember that Isaiah 41:10 says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
  • When experiencing grief or in despair keep in mind that,“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 174:3
  • When feeling unworthy or unattractive just know that God’s word says, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139: 13-14
  • When feeling as though success is out of reach remember “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3

The bible is full of scriptures that are meant to encourage and combat negative emotions and feelings.  God loves us and Jesus calls us friend. Don’t go off of how you feel, go off of what he says.
