    Invest in Yourself

I realize that I have a bad habit that needs to be broken. The habit that I am speaking of is actually common among many people I know although I don’t know if they realize that it is a habit.  Sometimes we become so consumed with the cares of life and we forget to invest in ourselves.  We invest in our spouses, our children, jobs, churches, community and etc…but we forget to invest in ourselves.  It is important to devote some time, energy and resources into ourselves.  I am in no way speaking against doing things for others; however, we must remember how important it is to do something…

    True Love is a Necessity

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails.” I Corinthians 13:4-8.  The act of love is like none other.  Without true love, we as a people would be completely lost.  God showed us his unfailing agape love when he gave his only begotten son so that we may have the opportunity for eternal life. Although God is the ultimate…

Learning to Love Again Part II

This article is the second part to “Learning to Love Again Part I”.  Here I will continue to share how my husband and I learned to survive in a marriage that seemed to be hopeless at times after his return from multiple deployments.  In order to save our marriage KJ and I both realized that we each had to bear the responsibility and adapt to the situation that was currently at hand.  We are thankful that God helped us to save our marriage and that we both learned how to love each other again after such a tough battle. 1. Commitment- When we marry our spouses we should always go…

    Crying in the Dark

Sometimes I lie in the bed at night when everyone is sleeping and I cry in the dark.  My husband is often right there beside me but he has no idea that I am crying in the dark.  There are days when the pressures of life seem to be unbearable for me to carry on my own.  There are times when I desire to see things change in the lives of my family, friends and my community; however, situations seem to get worse rather than better.  There are times when I wish I had the resources to supply the needs of others so that their needs will not be…

Finding the courage to try again Part II

To say that that the decision to try to have another baby was difficult would be more than an understatement. My husband and I found ourselves at a place in our lives we would have never imagined.  All of this on top of what we were already dealing with due to my husband’s effects from deployment.  I understand now that he truly wanted to comfort me and encourage me but there were times I could not be comforted or encouraged.  I felt like such a failure and while these feelings made me terrified to try again they also gave me an indescribable urge to try again so that I could…

Finding the courage to try again Part I

Two pregnancies!!  I will never forget that unbelievable day.  I can’t recall the doctor’s name or his face but his words will always be with me.  “Did the nurse tell you about the pregnancies? You are pregnant with twins.”  I was in such shock that I did not know whether I should be excited, scared or both.  I called my husband and he thought I was joking.  Believe me at that moment I was definitely not in the mood for jokes.  I remember calling my mom and my friends on the ride home because I just could not believe how God had come through. Yep, he was rewarding…

    Be Intentional

I love the song “Intentional” By Travis Greene. Whenever I listen to it, I begin to think about how special I am to God and how he truly has great intentions for me.  When we do things intentionally we are doing them on purpose.  God intentionally sent Jesus to die for us and he intentionally gives us the ability, desire, vision and resources to prosper.  God does not intend for us to live below what He can accomplish within us and through us. It is time for us to be intentional about the decisions and moves we make in life.  We should be intentionally walking in the visions and…

    If Only…

If only someone would see them for whom they could become.  If only someone would understand the pain, abuse and neglect they’ve been through and how it has affected them.  If only someone would care to prove that regardless of their behaviors, emotional outburst and hurtful words that they are still capable of being loved.  The ones they depended on the most failed to provide them with the love, safety and security that they not only needed but deserved.  This is often times why they may be withdrawn and somewhat reserved.  They move from place to place due to different reasons, some which they have caused on their own.  Deep…

    We Must Choose To See

This past Thursday while sitting in bible study, the Apostle of the church we attend said something that really made me think he said “you have to see it”.  This is actually something that he has said on multiple occasions, however, this time that saying caused a different effect then it had in the past.  This time I was encouraged to start seeing my dreams manifest in mind even before they actually come to past.  For example, although I only have a few blog followers I have begun seeing myself as a professional blogger (writer) with multiple followers.  I now see myself with several books that are best sellers although…

Why I as a Christian Choose to Celebrate Holidays

With the holiday season finally in swing and the continued expansion of social media, I have seen many posts and opinions concerning the reasons why Americans, Christians and Blacks should not celebrate holidays.  I decided to mildly address this issue, since I fall into all three categories, in hopes to helping some open minded people (not everyone will be) understand why I personally choose to celebrate holidays.  Before I begin I would like to ensure that everyone understands that I am only expressing my personal views and I am in no way speaking against anyone in a negative way.  I believe that everyone has a right to their opinions…
